Good Success, Belle Plaine, Melville and Zeelandia recorded victories in the first round of matches as the Navin and Renita Narayan 15\15 inter village round robin softball cricket competition commenced last Sunday at Belle Plaine in Wakenaam.
In the first match, Good Success defeated Sans Souci by 7 wickets. Sans Souci took first strike and managed 169 all out in 14 overs. Alex Hill scored 47 while Nokta Moses made 45 and Heera Sukram 24. Nazeer Mohamed, Imran Khan, Vijay Persaud and Moin Khan grabbed two wickets apiece.
Skipper Imran Khan then slammed fourteen sixes and one four in an unbeaten 115 while Shoaib Namaz supported with 21 as favourites Good Success won the game in 11 overs ending on 175-3.
In the second match, Belle Plaine made light work of Sarah beating them by 60 runs. Belle Plaine batted first and rattled up 183-3 in 15 overs. Chandreka Ragnauth top scored with 99 (9×6, 6×4) while Tamesh Persaud contributed 35 and Navin Narayan 32. Suraj Choon picked up 2-28 for Sarah who in reply scored 123-6 off their allotted overs. Melvorn Daniels made 45 as Macksood Khatweeb claimed 2-19.
In the penultimate game Melville got the better of Maria’s Pleasure by 43 runs. Melville took first turn at the crease and posted 165-9 in 15 overs. Zameer Zaman led with 54(6×6, 4×4), while Seon Venture and Tulsieram Ramadeen assisted with 26 and 20 respectively. Dinesh Rai took 3-28. Maria’s Pleasure in reply fell for 122 in 15 overs with Kennard Lewis getting 49. Kemo Paul 2-24 and Somel Heeraman 2-15 were the main wicket takers for the winners.
In the day’s final game, Zeelandia narrowly overcame Domburg by 1 run. Navishaul Pooran scored 108 which included eleven sixes and six fours, while Ricardo Adams made 23 as Zeelandia mustered 148 all out off their allotted overs. Hassan Mohamed bagged 2-33. Domburg then responded with 147-4 in 10 overs. Mohamed returned to top score with 53 (3×6, 6×4), while Neil Ramalho made 50 (3×6, 4×4) and Vickasie Headley chipped in with 20. Amar Dyal was the pick of the bowlers for Zeelandia with 2-3. The game was reduced to 10 overs due to the fading light.
