A $130M Primary School is being built in the new Diamond/ Grove Housing Scheme, and the contractor Kares Engineering Inc. commenced construction on July 12, last. The building’s proposed completion date is April 13, 2012.
According to the Ministry of Education, the building when completed will house some 1000 students. It will be outfitted with 24 regular classrooms, a master classroom, a library, an information technology centre with internet connection, a kitchenette and sanitary blocks.
The structure will be handed over to the Region Four administration. The Education Ministry also revealed that two new nursery schools will soon be built at Diamond and Grove respectively. It would also mean that residents of Diamond will have a nursery, primary and secondary school at their disposal.
The Ministry further disclosed that Project contractor, Radesh Rameshwar said work is well ahead of schedule and his team is making every effort to complete the school within the timeframe and specifications outlined in the contract with the Education Ministry.
He urged residents to inspect the construction process, pointing out that he is always willing to respond to their queries and listen to their suggestions. After all, he said, the building is for the community.
Residents noted that with a primary school in their community, they would not have to pay transportation costs for their children who attend schools in other villages on the East Bank and the city.
