Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited’s New Amsterdam Branch, in recognition of the area’s Town Day 2011 celebrations, on Wednesday, last, made a $50,000 donation to assist with overhead expenses for the event, which will be held from September 25 to October 1.
Republic Bank Manager Imran Sacoor presents the cheque to coordinator of the New Amsterdam committee, Norma Chesney, in the presence of other staffers.
Manager Imran Sacoor presented a cheque to coordinator of the Town Day Committee, Norma Chesney, at a simple ceremony held on the lawns of the Bank’s Strand and New Street location.
Ms Chesney thanked the Bank for the gesture and urged other business entities to follow suit.
Meanwhile, the Bank also launched a special “Town Week Loan Promotion” that will run from September 1-30, giving customers an opportunity to acquire special loans for various purposes and for cash-needed expenses and spending money during the period.
According to Sacoor, this is in direct response to the Town Council and Town Day Committee’s request to help spruce up the community and get involved in activities for the celebrations. As a corporate citizen, he said, the Bank decided to go with that initiative, so as to enable persons to have money in their pockets, with reasonable pay back terms – from as low as six percent to 15%.
Loans, he stated, can be borrowed for any legal purpose – home, car, furniture, school studies, family reunion, etc. There is no ceiling on how much an individual can borrow, and repayment time varies. Sacoor added that during this loan period, persons will fill coupons which will give them an opportunity to win, among other items, a Home Theatre system, gas stove, microwave and DVD player.
The Branch Manager also disclosed that the Bank will be panting several road signs and pedestrian crossings in the town. They will also be painting the posts in the New Street area and decorating the surroundings with flags and buntings.
“Republic Bank has always looked for meaningful ways of connecting and giving back to the community, and the launch of the special promotion for Town Week is just one such community engagement. The Bank has over the years supported and invested in education for our children, sports and care for the needy, all under the ‘Power to make a Difference Programme’,”Sacoor concluded.
