The alertness of police ranks on patrol in the Annandale, East Coast Demerara area has led to the removal of another illegal weapon from the hands of criminals.
The police actions resulted in the arrest of three men following the discovery of an unlicenced .38 revolver with four live rounds, in a car, around 03:00hours yesterday.
This newspaper was reliably informed that the weapon was found stashed behind the car’s compact disc (CD) player.
None of the three men claimed ownership of the weapon, but police are of the impression that the men might have been preparing to commit a robbery.
According to reports, the police were patrolling along the Annandale Railway Embankment when they stopped a car with three men who were acting suspiciously. One of the ranks at the roadblock recognized one of the occupants of the car as a known character who had had previous brushes with the law regarding firearm possession.
This raised the policeman’s suspicions and a thorough search was carried out on the vehicle.
The driver of the car immediately tried to distance himself from the two other occupants, reportedly claiming that he was hired by them.
However, when the gun was found he had no answer to questions about how the gun was stashed in his vehicle.
All the men gave Georgetown addresses.
