Jumbo Jet stables take top honours once again
By Samuel Whyte
It was Champtress that did the trick as the racehorse owned by Dennis DeRoop of The Simple Royal Stable of Corentyne is quickly becoming the horse to beat. The headliner once again pummeled its rivals to take top honours and race away with the sumptuous $1,000,000 top prize and the coveted President’s Cup for its third win in less than two months when the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the PPP held a Grand One Day horserace meet last Sunday at the club’s racetrack, West Coast Berbice.
Top Trinidadian Jockey Brian Harding flew into the country just in time compliments of The Habibulla and Simple Royal stables to turn things upside down as he not only took the Champion jockey honours, but straddle top runner Champtress and skillfully guided the animal to the winning pole and championship honours.
Seven horses left the starting gates in an even break with the lead changing hands constantly with Champtress tucked away in the bunch.
Along the back stretch the animals picked up speed and were going at a blistering pace with Marathon Man by then running like its name suggest leading the pack into the far turn.
By then Champtress, the American Bred animal classified D2 and another American bred animal Grand De Roja of the Jumbo Jet stable and piloted by another foreign jockey, Jamaican Andron Findley, had started to make their move on the leader.
Into the homestretch the animals were roaring towards the finishing line as Champtress which has shown a liking for the distance displayed its championship qualities as it picked up speed and with international Jockey Harding bring all his 30 years experience in the saddle to bear, let the animal go at full throttle with skillful handling to power across the finish line in a close finish ahead of Grand De Roja, Marathon Man and Zelik who rounded out the money in the 1600M event.
Get Set Go of the Jumbo Jet Stable with Trinidadian Jockey A. Padmore aboard took off with the$ 600,000 and trophy up for grabs to comfortably win the 1100M event for C3 and lower animals that came in from the USA but never won a race. In second place was Tiger Prospect, followed by Wad A Luck and Miss Karina.
There was nothing abnormal in the Three year old 1600M event for Guyana and the West Indies bred horses as captain Crook of the Jumbo Jet stable with Yap Drepaul in the saddles took top honours ahead of Work Force, Swing Easy and Big Impact for the $500,000 winner’s money and trophy.
Pinch D cash of the Rumour’s Stable with Kumar Singh riding took its share of the day’s takings as it scooted away with the $500,000 and trophy in the E class 1600M event ahead of the Bailiff, Got to go and South Sea.
Serenity of the Jumbo Jet stable with Drepaul on its back had no difficulty as it won the West Indies Bred two year old1100M race and the $400,000 purse from Happy Choice, Rock Sonia and Times Have Change.
Prado’s Gold of The Asrafalli stable with Findley in control struck gold and the $400,000 with a big win in the G class 1100M event ahead of Work Force, The Gap and Zelona.
It was a blessed day for the Shepherd’s Stable as Blessings ridden by Kumar Singh ran away with the $300,000 first prize in the Guyana Bred two year old 1100M event ahead of Speed Girl and Baby Flyer.
Brian Harding was again in the stirrups as Dream Girl won a gate to pole race in the H class 1600M event and the $220,000 prize from Pixie Fire, Royal Champion and Princess Renuka.
Royal Salute with Harding on board had to work overtime to win the $180,000 in the 1100M I1 event from Mon Lisa, Royal Time and New World.
Mona Lisa, ridden by Apadhu, of the Crawford Stable sailed away with the $140,000 purse in the I3 race from JD Junior, Royal Salute and Pinky over 1100M.
Flying Object of the Whitney Isaacs Stable and ridden by Desmond made sure there was nothing in its path as it made off with the $100,000 prize to win its first race in the division 1,11 and 111 category over 1100M.
Champion jockey Brian Harding edged out Yap Drepaul for championship honours and received his accolade compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
The Jumbo Jet stable was adjudged the top stable on show. Over 90 horses participated in the day’s action which had close to $10M on offer.
