Harpy Eagles bantamweight pugilist, Imran ‘The Magic’ Khan turned in an impressive performance to stop Pocket Rocket Boxing gym representative Richard Williamson in 1:21secs of the third round and lived up to his pre-fight boast of being the better of the two.
As he had promised before the bout, Khan employed a stinging jab in the early stages of the bout that kept Williamson at bay, while he (Khan) built up the points.
This trend continued for the entire first round and into the initial stage of the second when Williamson attempted to bully his man with a two fisted assault. Khan would have none of it and easily dominated the second round as he had done in the first.
The lanky Khan continued to dominate the situation into the third stanza forcing Williamson to duck to avoid the stinging blows. After taking one such evasive action, the referee jumped in and deducted another point from Williamson for persistent ducking. He re-entered the contest but was met by several ramrod punches, one of them forcing another mandatory eight count before the referee, Ramona Agard decided that she had seen enough and waved the bout off at 1:21secs of round three.
Guyana Defence Force (GDF) representative Eon Bancroft was also in winner’s row when he fought Kelsie George in a middleweight affair.
Despite being the chubbier pugilist, Bancroft proved to be the fitter and at times slicker as he crafted out a third round stoppage over his man. Bancroft surged ahead in the very early stages of the bout and before the first round had ended, forced the referee to institute 2 mandatory eight counts.
The pattern continued into the second stanza with Bancroft reeling off several combinations forcing George to seek refuge behind high guards.
The lanky George found a rhythm in the third round but Bancroft matched his every blow and later in the round forced the referee to institute the mandatory eight count. George re-entered the fray but failed to see the left hook that snuck past his guards and floored him for the full count at 2:48secs of the third frame.
Marlon Darrel also won his bout after a barrage of punches floored Clairmont Gibson for good at 1:49secs of the first round, while Romel Rowley dropped a points decision to Akeem Daniels in their 89lbs encounter.
All of the amateur boxers received large food hampers compliments of furniture giants Courts Guyana Ltd.
