Milo Under-23 Tournament
Three clubs made it into winner’s row when the annual Milo Under-23 Football Competition kicked off with a thrilling evening of competition on Friday night, at the Tucville Playfield.
The feature match saw Fruta Conquerors register a comfortable 3-1 win over Santos FC, while in the second game of the triple header Flamingo edged the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 1-0 and Beacon United squeezed past the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 2-1.
On Friday, the Conquerors versus Santos affair saw Ryan Seales scoring first for Santos in the 18th minute, but that was followed by an equaliser through Dwayne Laurence one minute later. Laurence was once again in the mix when he netted in the 33rd minute which left them in the lead at half time.
At the resumption of the showdown the teams continued their see-saw battle until Travis Hackette delivered the final blow in the 78th minute to propel Conquerors to victory. Flamingo picked up a 29th minute goal through Rawle Phillips and was stubborn enough to keep the GDF team at bay for the rest of the encounter to come away with full points.
Earlier, Joshua Britton and Dellon Cadogan scored in the 19th and 24th minutes respectively to hand Beacon United the lead, before the GPF pulled back a goal back in the 48th minute through Aubrey Shepherd, who found the back of the net, but it was not enough to save them from surrendering full points.
Action continued yesterday at the same venue with another triple header.
In the first match, Black Pearl were scheduled to meet Northern Rangers; GPF went head to head with Charlestown United at 18:00 hours and the final match was between Sunburst Camptown and GDF at 20:00 hours.
