The day has finally arrived and all roads lead to the famous Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park West Coast Berbice today when the club in collaboration with the PPP/C stage their grand one day horse race meet.
Close to $10M is stake and over 100 horses entered. With Banks DIH playing a big part and the Mingles Sound Machine and Chester Fry Chicken being in attendance thousands are expected to converge on the venue.
The Banks DIH Limited sponsored B class feature event will once again be the talk of the day not only because of the sumptuous $2M at stake which will see a $1M first prize and the President Cup up for grabs by the winner. Most of the horses entered have been winners in a feature event before and with none of them dominating a feature race for the year so far another pulsating event is in the making over the 1600M distance. The line up reads Champtress, Donut Prince, Grande Roja, The Message, Marathon Man, Zelik, Miss Orientate, Fairy Landing, Tiger Prospect, Majestic and Wad A Luck.
All the American Bred horses that haven’t won a race since their arrival in Guyana will have an opportunity to enter the winners row in a specially arrange C3 and lower classified event for a winning purse of $600,000 and the Finance Minister trophy over 1100M compliments of Medirton Pharmaceuticals and with horses such as Tiger Prospect, Star Tracer, Wad a Luck, On the Rock with Salt, Miss Karina, Stormy Flame, Native Contester, Exporter, Who is on the Case, Gold Finger and Get Set Go in the mix an interesting race is in the making.
All the Top Jockey from in and out of Guyana will once again be on show including The two Jamaican Jockeys Andron Findlay and Kevin Blake and they will strut their stuff against overseas based Kumar Singh from USA, Michael Semple of St Kitts, and Barbados based Carl Liverpool along with the bevy of top Guyanese riders including Rupert Ramnauth, Yap Drepaul, Daniel Flores, Kevin Paul,
Mark Vassey, Krishna Singh, Navin Ally, Mahendra Sukhoo, Nascimento, Murtland Sancho, Prem Chandra, Winston Apadhu and K. Richmond among others.
The other events on the day’s card are the E Class 1600M event sponsored by Medirton Supplies for a winner’s prize of $500,000 and the Minister of Health Trophy.
The three year old event for Horses Bred and Born in Guyana and the West Indies sponsored by Jumbo Jet for the $500,000 and the General Secretary Trophy over 1600M.
The G and lower 1100M race sponsor by Navin for a $400,000 first prize and the Minister of Sports trophy.
The two 2 year old events for West Indies and the other for Guyana bred horses both over 1100M has their winnings at $400,000 and $300,000 respectively compliments of the organizers.
The H class 1600M event with a first prize of $220,000 is sponsored by M.B Construction, while the I1 and lower1100M Cummings Electrical sponsored event is for a top prize of $180, 000.
The I3 and lower 1100M event compliments of Innovative and Balmic Construction will see the winner of that race collecting $140,000.
The L class race has its pole position takings tagged at $80,000 over 1100M compliments of the Trophy Stall Bourda market and the organizers.
The Trophy Stall, Bourda Market along with the organizers will be presenting incentives for the top individual performers.
According to race coordinator Dennis Deroop, despite the recent rains the track is in perfect condition and all systems are in place for an exhilarating day of racing.
The Race will be held under the rules of the Rising Sun Turf Club. Race time is 12:00 hrs.
