The Berbice Cricket Board’s 2100 First Division Cricket Season gets underway this week-end with the commencement of two First Division 50-Overs Competitions which will be used as a yardstick to identify the Berbice team for the upcoming El Dorado Inter-county Tournament.
The first round of the Anirud Ramcharitar First Division 50-Overs Knock-out Competition is scheduled for today with four matches while tomorrow the Tenelec Inc 50-Overs Round Robin Competition begins with four matches. All matches are scheduled to start at 09.30 hours.
This year, with regulars Scottsburg United and Rose Hall Community Centre withdrawing because of administrative reasons, ten teams will be participating in the First Division Competition; Edinburgh, Bermine, Police, Young Warriors, West Berbice, Albion Community Centre, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Port Mourant Karibee Rice and Skeldon Community Centre.
For the first time since the 2004 BCBC/Upper Corentyne Business Community Competition, the Berbice Cricket Board has decided to do away with the zone system for the round robin, resulting in all ten teams scheduled to play each other in the Tenelec Inc Competition.
Both competitions will be played with teams using coloured clothes, white balls and black sight screens and also with all of the latest ODI playing conditions in force.
Saturday’s first round fixtures for the Anirud Ramcharitar Knock-out:
(1) Police vs Skeldon Community Centre @ Cumberland – Umpires Augustus Outar and Sean Coonjah.
(2) Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets vs Young Warriors @ Rose Hall Town – Umpires Gangapersaud Shivdyal and Zaheer Moakan.
(3) Edinburgh vs West Berbice @ Edinburgh – Umpires Rafik Latif and Jai Hardeo.

The fifth scheduled match between Albion Community Centre and Bermine was postponed to a later date to allow Albion to fulfill their commitments to a Tape Ball cricket competition.
Tenelec Inc Round Robin first round fixtures for tomorrow.

(2) West Berbice vs Blairmont Community Centre @ Bush Lot – Umpires Moses Ramphal and Rafik Latif.
