The murder rate in Guyana’s interior continues to climb with yet another killing, this time that of a woman.
Police have indicated that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Donna Lakeram of Second Avenue, Bartica who was reportedly stabbed and strangled by a man at Semang, Issano.
Police said they received the report about the incident around 10:00 hours yesterday, but did not indicate when the incident actually occurred.
Kaieteur News understands that the woman lived with a man called ‘Yellow Man’ in a camp occupied by other persons.
There are reports that Lakeram became engaged in a heated argument with a man in the camp, and it is alleged that during the argument, Lakeram was attacked and murdered.
It is also believed that the woman was raped since she was discovered nude.
According to the police, ranks responded and went to the area where the suspect was arrested and is in police custody.
A team of investigators has been dispatched to the area to continue with further investigations, while Lakeram’s body was brought to the city and is presently lying at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.
