A married couple, charged with assaulting each other, appeared yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where they were each admitted to bail. They both denied the allegation against them.
When Abigail Nelson, 21, made her appearance before Magistrate Hazel Octive Hamilton she heard, on August 20 at Norton Street, Werk-en-rust, Georgetown, she unlawfully assaulted Quaison Nelson.
Meanwhile, Quaison Nelson’s charge read that on the day of the incident he assaulted his wife, Abigail Nelson, so as to cause her grievous bodily harm.
The defendants, who gave their address as Lot 14 Norton Street, Werk-en-rust, Georgetown, made successful bail applications.
Abigail Nelson stated that she is currently unemployed and that she attends classes at the Berea Royal College located in Barr Street, Kitty, while Quaison Nelson told the court that he is employed as a mechanic. The couple has a one-year-old son.
The Prosecution had no objections to bail but requested that the couple seek counseling and that one of the defendants remove from the home.
Quaison Nelson then stated that he can remove from the premises and live at his employer’s residence which is located at Lamaha Street, Newtown.
Quaison Nelson was granted bail to the tune of $20,000. Abigail Nelson’s bail was set at $10,000.
They are both expected to return to court on November 8.
