– majority heading to Jamzone with ‘fake’ passes
Police detained several vehicles at the Providence Station compound on Sunday, after the drivers were reportedly found with bogus ‘out of zone’ passes.
However, many of the drivers, most of whom were headed to the Jamzone event being held at the Splashmin’s Resort, claim that they obtained the “fake” passes from “authentic” police stations, which they named.
Their passengers were made to seek transportation elsewhere.
Drivers whose vehicles were tinted too dark were also taken into the station, and it was clear that many other laws were being breached. According to police officials, others were found under the influence of alcohol after submitting to breathalyzer tests.
An official told this newspaper that the matter of how and from where fake passes were obtained would be under investigation, as they are certain that the drivers themselves photocopied the vehicle passes. It was also stressed that tinted vehicles are becoming more prevalent and would not be tolerated.
The official explained that while a certain degree of tint is acceptable, many drivers tint their vehicles excessively, without being aware of how dangerous this practice is.
It was also stated that most of the “over-tinted” vehicles are those belonging to young drivers who abuse road privileges and are the main culprits behind most road fatalities.
