CFU Women’s Under-17 qualifiers
Using their ‘superior fitness’ on the field, Guyana did just what was reported in Kaieteur Sport last Friday, executing their plan against the Anguillans at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground, yesterday to top their Group and qualify for the next stage of the competition.
Guyana led the game from the start after the referee’s whistle as they maneuvered the ball across the field like energy filled rabbits with Duracell batteries.
The first goal for Guyana was registered in the first half of the game. It came from Ursuline Primus in the 38th minute, when she took a right foot shot that powered past Anguilla goalkeeper Shaniqua Hodge.
After the first goal, Anguilla had no chance in the second half as Guyana increased the tempo attacking like real Jaguars hunting its prey. Guyana’s captain, Diana Mandokin was one of the players who impressed the spectators with her intelligent defence against their opponents. Guyana’s goalkeeper Shonnette Gasper was also outstanding in the game as she denied the Anguillans access in registration of goals.
Sara Vaughan, being the tallest player for Guyana, netted the final goal on the sixty-first minute when she received a lucid past from her team-mate in the 18 yard box which she slotted home with aplomb to send her teammates and supporters into celebration mode as they booked their spot in the next stage of the World Cup qualifying competition.
