Pediatric Ward at GPHC to be more “family friendly”
The Pediatric Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) will soon benefit from donations made by a non-profitable organization called “Grant a Dream” as this group seeks to enhance this Ward and make it more “family friendly”.
The group of talented and highly motivated individuals with sponsorship from Ansa McAl Limited and Digicel Guyana, yesterday, hosted a funday under the theme “Tales from Wonderland” at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground, Bourda.
This fund-raising activity catered for toddlers, teenagers and adults.

Kaieteur News understands that each section had different atmospheres such as the “Mak-C Mad Tea Party” where the ambiance was set according to the play “Alice in Wonderland”,
A number of persons were all dressed up in the characters’ costumes and even the famous “SpongeBob, Dora and Barney” cartoon characters were present for the little children.
Other attractions at this activity included many games, a miniature castle, maze, tunnels all of which were warmly welcomed by the children.
Chairperson of the “Grant a Dream” team, Dominique Dias, told this newspaper that her group consists of a number of young individuals between the ages of 21 and 28 who all “have the same common interest”.
“Our group is a non-profitable organization and sought to have something done about the situation in the pediatric ward of the GPHC since we think it should be more family-like for those admitted there likewise the relatives of the patients. We are taking a hands-on approach and we are not giving monetary donations. All proceeds from this event will purchase more beds, a TV, DVDs, medical supplies etc for the ward,” said Dias.
Kaieteur News further understands that this activity will be an annual one where all proceeds will be donated to various entities as time goes by.
Chelsea Fung, the Secretary of “Grant a Dream”, stated that there are many social issues which Guyanese have to face, mainly due to poverty and her group’s aim is to alleviate such problems.

“We aren’t giving any money to the hospital. We are purchasing everything ourselves. There will be a section where toys will be available for the kids to play with and another section where parents will be comfortable, especially if they have to overnight at the hospital. We want to make a change and motivate other youngsters to do so as well,” added Fung.
Yesteday’s event saw over 50 volunteers throughout Guyana offering their time, skills and services to raise funds.
