A Trans Guyana Airlines plane crash landed at the Port Kaituma Airstrip with three passengers and the female Pilot onboard, yesterday morning.
Chief Finance Officer of the airlines, Nicole Correia of Correia Group of Companies told this publication that the incident occurred at around noon yesterday and may have been caused by bad weather.
Correia said the three passengers escaped the ordeal without injuries. The pilot of the aircraft at the time was Juanita Williams and all the passengers were said to be locals. Fortunately no one on the ground either was injured. Reports out of the area suggest that the aircraft crashed into a fence and a billboard.
This publication was told that the incident occurred as the Pilot was attempting to land on the runway but skidded off. There are reports that the Pilot was left dazed and shocked.
Meanwhile, Correia said once the office was informed of the incident, a team immediately flew into the location along with some officials from the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority. She said that once there, initial investigation had commenced. A source close to the investigation said that the damages to the plane are extensive and the aircraft might be a total write off.
This is the second aircraft crash locally within the past month. Some three weeks ago, a Caribbean Airlines Jet skidded off the runway at the Cheddie Jagan International Airport, Timehri. At the time of the incident, there were a total of 163 passengers on board. There were no reported causalities while there were some minor injuries.
