Guyana plan to use their ‘superior fitness’ in the Caribbean Football Union Women’s U-17 qualifiers as a key factor to test Anguilla today, as they hope to win the crucial World Cup qualifier.
In an interview yesterday via telephone with the Assistant Coach of Guyana, Mr. Paul Beresford, Kaieteur News was informed that there will be an expectation of improvements from Guyana in their next game, which is being staged today at the Uitvlugt ground from 15:30hrs.
“We expect improvements from the previous game as we are working on our technical abilities and some fundamental skills for this game. The players were nervous in the first half of the game since it was their first international meet as a group; however they were able to improve in the second half.”
Mr. Paul Beresford said that some key players on the team are injured and it will call for a few adjustments but it will not hinder us since we seem to be the fittest.
He also added that it is a major concern with the team mistakes as it related to the number of goal chances missed, “It was costly for the team with the number balls that hit the goal post…there was not any lack of preparation, I think it was just the nerves and lack of patience in the players.”
Guyana drew their opening match with Curacao 1-1 and will hope to win today with a good goal difference to ensure they top the group.
