The President, Executive and Members of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has extended congratulations to the Berbice Universal DVD Titans on their remarkable victory in the Hit & Jams Masters Twenty20 Tournament.
The victory, the BCB stated, continues the ongoing success story of Berbice cricket over the last four years and was the result of dedication, team unity and a united purpose to be the best in Guyana.
The Berbice Cricket Board salutes Manager, Pastor Mark Lyte, Coach Adrian Amsterdam and Captain Royston Crandon for a job well done and the entire team for making the Ancient County proud.
Senior players the likes of Assad Fudadin, Esuan Crandon, Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Foo, Veerasammy Permaul all led by example while the young guns including Richard Ramdeen, Anthony Bramble, Rajiv Ivan, Devon Clements and Eugene La Fleur all contributed to the success.
Berbice cricket is without doubt at the top of its game because of the hard work of the BCB and everyone involved in the game.
“Our team was fully prepared for this tournament due to the success of the annual senior elite training programme and specially arranged practice matches.” The BCB noted that what was heartening to see was the fact that all of its hard work on and off the cricket field was resulting in positive returns. Their motto is for all of the teams is ‘All for one and One for all’.
The BCB was criticised in some quarters for its refusal to field foreign players and in fact the Berbice team was viewed as underdogs for the tournament.
Players came from as far as London, Port of Spain, Bridgetown and Kingston but a team of locally bred players won. The Board under the present administration strongly believes in the ability of its own players and in the belief that local products are always better than expensive imports.
The BCB’s policy of opting for local players ahead of foreign players has once again been proven accurate.
Gratitude is being extended by the BCB to Hits & Jams Entertainment for hosting a well organised tournament. The BCB also salutes the thousands of fans who in true Berbice fashion supported the team at the National Stadium.
Special thanks are extended to the Management and Staff of Universal DVD Club for their investment in Berbice Cricket as the Official sponsor of the team. “Berbice cricket is without doubt on the move and the Board would like to reassure all its stakeholders that progress would continue.”
