Fifth Annual Guyana Cup 2011 $20M horse races meet
Radio, TV programmes and giveaways on the cards
This year’s Fifth Annual Guyana Cup 2011 $20M horserace meet organised by the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Stables is set to be the best of its kind in recent history. That’s the word out of the principals of the race meet as they raise the bar in their effort to lift the sport.
With less than a week away for the mega sporting event, which is slated for Sunday August 21 at the Port Mourant Turf Club, more horses and sponsors are still coming on board.
As it is said, persons like to align themselves with good things and winners, and the Jumbo Jet Establishment must be doing something good as a number of business entities have also come on board.
Led by Beverage Giants Banks DIH Limited and Telephone Giants Digicel, others pledging support for the event are Innovative Construction, Smart Parts Auto Spares, Hand in Hand Insurance, Builder’s Lumber Yard, Ganesh Parts, Albert & Richard Sarjoo Cambio, Imperial Manufacturer, Bumper to Bumper, Sankar’s Auto Color, Guy Track, BK International, Cummings Electrical, Giftland Office Max, E. Quail, Shairaz Gas Station and 4R Bearings.
11 races are carded for the day which also makes it the most races for a day. The events listed are A class and lower winning prize $2M and the Guyana Cup trophy over 1800M.
The 3 yr old event for horses Bred and Born in Guyana and the West Indies is for a $1.5M top money over1500M distance.
The West Indies Bred two year winner will get $1M and trophy over 1000M.
The E class and lower 1500M event is for a $800,000 top prize and trophy.
The F class race with winnings tagged at $700,000 and trophy is a 1000M race.
The Guyana Bred three year old race is for winnings of $600,000 and trophy over 1200M.
The G & Lower 1000M has a purse of $500,000 and trophy.
The two year old event for Guyana bred horses will see the winner taking $500,000 over 1000M.
The H& Lower 1200M race first prize is $400,000 and a trophy.
There is a race for ‘I’ and lower horses over 1200M for a $200,000 purse.
The final race is for ‘I’ & Lower maiden horses over 1200M.
The top Jockey a along with the runner up, the top Stable and Champion trainer will all be presented with accolades compliments of West Indian Sports Complex. Entries closed yesterday.
Massive rehabilitation works have been undertaken on the venue, including works on the stands and the Track.
The starting gates will now cater for 16 starters. Over 100 stables are now available at the venue.
There will be massive giveaways including Free Shirts and Hats to the first 2000 people, while free tickets will be given away over the radio on numerous call-in programmes. Slingers International Sound Systems will be part of the day’s action.
