Dear Editor,
Mayor Green was very touchy in responding to my letter (KN Aug 9) with my queries which seemed to hit a raw nerve. Green has not shown any remorse and redemption in his response. He completely ignores all my inquiries and made some of his own. Fortunately, I have no knowledge of any of his ranting which serve only as tactical diversions.
But it is obvious Green knows many intimate details from the dark days of the 1960s. Yet he does not know that Georgetown, which he administers today, is stinking to high heaven just as it was under the dictatorship. Is he still Mayor? One wonders if stinking garbage is an ideal environment in which he best operates.
I can assure Green I do not speak for “my kit and kin” who he invites involvement in this debate. Unlike Green, I am not a politician. But I am sure also that he absolutely has no mandate to speak on behalf of anybody. He could be speaking on behalf of the PNC. It is his right to speak on behalf of he PNC even as he was expelled by the same PNC under Desmond Hoyte’s leadership. The Mayor has forgotten that Georgetown youths rocked his car in disgust when they swarmed around him at a public event. But he hardly is the popular leader in a party where he is just tattered window dressing anyway.
Green’s response to my queries lack credibility. He fails to explain why reports about rape must be directed to him. He has consistently failed accountability and creates diversions of any role in office even in nowadays 2011.
Such camouflage denials about rapes committed at National Service reminds us about his brazen denial of the PNC’s history of rigging elections. One can see his dismissive, careless attitude about past atrocities. For him, such events did not happen. Just as the Nazis denied the pogrom against Jews, Green would also deny that Chinese Guyanese PPP politician’s Rudy Luck’s daughter was raped at National Service. What did he do about that incident? Or Mahadai Dass’s rape? Anything? Once the evidence on rape is presented anew, wouldn’t Green ridicule it and continue his denials? Why wasn’t anyone ever arrested and charged? Doesn’t this mean his govt. condoned these rapes?
It is a relief to know Green supports the investigations of rape and other atrocities an international tribunal under the International Criminal Court (ICC) and UN. But he must also support compensation for the victims from the assets of the guilty. Is presenting any evidence about National Service rapes to Green futile?
Does Green have any authority to adjudicate the matter. One can understand why he becomes very upset with the issues. It only invites more microscopic scrutiny. I say do no evil fear no evil. What makes Green so scared about this national issue?
One understands the issues raised by Green are diversions to deflect attention to the rapes at National Service. If Green is found to be involved in any atrocity, would he turn over his personal wealth to compensate the victims? If he is not involved what does he recommend be done to riggers? Only Green does not know that Georgetown is stinking and the dead at Le Repentir Cemetery have no
peace. Guyanese have no security and comfort under Green when they are alive and dead.
How does Green feel about villagers along West Berbice, the Corentyne, ECD, WCD, etc. staying up all night on lookout to protect their homes and family? Can he tell us who raped and killed Dolly Baksh after she entertained the big ones, dumping her body at the sea wall?
Can he say who was in charge of the ‘mongoose squad’ that terrorized political opponents? In regards to his inquiry in “Helping to identify ‘Paddy Man’, this has nothing to do with National Service and rapes which started this debate. This response is a diversion to the issue. Green seems to know a lot about who was involved in the ship matter. Did he see ‘Paddy Man’ go on board the ship, and why wasn’t he tracked down? Why didn’t Green go to the British controlled police at that time with the info? I am told the PNC and British in charge of Guyana were best friends and they were united in toppling the PPP government. Was British Commissioner of the BG Police, Mr PG Owen (another white man who he loves to nowadays hate) incompetent to solve the problem?
Green wants to know “who raped the Ishmael family … from Tain”. I was a toddler then. I don’t know the family and I strongly condemn the attackers as I do against anyone involved in these kinds of atrocities. All Guyanese should be hurt about this horrible crime. Maybe Green can tell us who raped Barak Alli’s eldest daughter at Dochfour on the East Coast and caused them to flee that village. Green please help us identify the person (s) who set fire to the Hadfield Street house of Mr. Arthur Abraham, killing him and seven children on June 12, 1964. Mr. Abraham was Permanent Secretary to the Premier.
Freddie Kissoon says he may know who shot newspaperman, British born, Peter Taylor. Freddie may also know who torched Abraham’s house. Take him to court and let him answer.
Green wants to know who set fire in cane fields. This is not the same as looting and burning property.
I am not demonizing the PNC. But Guyana’s history and the PNC’s role in it is well known. Green said the bullet that struck Superintendent Deryck Mc Leod came from the Freedom House vicinity. Green seems to have intimate details. Green seems to know a lot about police work. A trial took place for the Superintendent’s shooting. When will we have trial for the killing of Rodney, Ramsammy, Shirley Field Ridley, Teekah, Koama, Dublin, etc.? And speaking about shooting, does Green know anything about missing GDF guns?
He queried why a by-election was never held in 1961 for alleged irregularities. Did the PPP control the Bureau of Elections and was it in a position to rig that one district election? How does this compare with the wholesale rigging of the national elections for 28-years – impounding ballot boxes in the Army Headquarters, etc.?
Who was in charge of British Guiana? Was it Green’s British allies or the PPP which couldn’t even control the Police Force at the Wismar massacre of Indians one day after the Sealeys’ funeral on May 26. Should the PPP be held accountable for this lapse of the British? In any case, please justify one election irregularity in 1961 under the British, equating it to 28 years of PNC dictatorship, raping, violence, murder of opponents, and rigging. Not a good case for “equality” and power sharing for sure!
Green claimed there was a hurricane of protests when the British imposed PR in Guyana. How did Green respond to that hurricane? Green must account for his role in the PNC X-13 plan. Tell everything. Tell us about Emmanuel Fairbain as I read about on the web?
He asked me about March 28, 1963 bus explosion. “Born fuh wuk” of Lusignan was tried and jailed for this incident. The British police did their job. As of today, nobody has been tried for Wismar or “my kit and kin” Rodney, Koama, Ramsammy, Dr Thomas, etc. Anybody jailed or hanged when “my kit and kin” Michael Forde was blown up removing a bomb from under Freedom House. Was anyone tried for killing Kowsilla with a tractor? Was anyone tried for the burning of Harry Rattansingh’s car at Buxton, the beating and roasting to death of a lady from Enterprise which caused her husband to go insane and her children motherless? There was no trial for my “kit and kin” the Sealeys who were brutally murdered at Buxton.
I don’t know about the killing of Joslyn John of Meten-Meer-Zorg but whatever happened was terrible and must be condemned.
The seditious writings of four Indians are still on Green’s mind. Can Green provide details – what specific statements these gentlemen made that constitute seditious writings? I believe Shakoor Manraj became a top attorney in North America.
“And speaking about “kit and kin”, wasn’t Balwant Singh the President of the Civil Service Association who helped the PNC and CIA in the 80 days strike to topple the PPP?
What we need in Guyana is the whole truth and reconciliation. A commission can bring out the truth. Our history must not be based on lies and distortions. Please Green, be true to yourself and conscience especially since you are attempting to sanitize our country’s history by revisionism and as you continue to preside over the destruction of Guyana’s once beautiful Garden city to its current Garbage City.
I am willing to undergo a lie detector test on the questions Green posed. Is Green prepared to do the same for his responses to my questions?
