Dear Editor,
The PPP cannot fool youths with music, games and expos when there are no jobs and a life of crime and corruption.
As a Guyanese loyal to this country and disloyal to its political parties, I think this game that political parties play to try to capture the youth vote is a sickening one.
The PPP’s latest attempt to fool young people is this Impress Expo. I know that young people are impressionable.
I know that Guyanese are always vulnerable to a ‘sport’ and are always open to freeness. I know that many deprived young people of our country are susceptible to the lure of shiny things.
So when the shallow men of questionable morality who run this country into the ground and abuse the people of this nation come up with the idea that throwing up some tents, a few colorful booths, some floodlights and having some tech gadgets on display is enough for the youths of this nation to forget their reality of being broke, unemployed, economically castrated, uneducated and being asked to grow up in a country of crime, corruption and cost of living nightmares; that it is enough for youths to forget who they are and what they want, they have another thing coming.
This old Christopher Columbus trickery of trading shiny beads for gold ‘ain’t gonna work’ with youths. The bare-faced PPP is using this nasty strategy on Amerindians and now youths.
It is a failed strategy from a failed party that believes gimmickry is enough for youths to abandon their desire for genuine change. Genuine change cannot come for youths under the PPP. It will only come when a Barack Obama figure arrives.
This is the PPP for you. A party that spent 19 years neglecting the youths of this country and creating a dangerous, despicable, corrupt and failed society for them where they can’t even find work or don’t even have labs in schools when they need to pass science exams. This same PPP decides it is ok to come along with an expo and hope that young people will fall for it hook, line and sinker.
Do these political fiends think young people are stupid? Do they think that the youths of this country will fall for deceit? Do they think that the youths will run out and vote PPP because the PPP showed them some shiny, fancy looking things at an expo? This insult by the PPP is evidence of how the PPP top guns view people and in particular the young people of this nation.
They see them as shallow, lacking conviction, easily fooled and willing to sell their souls for anything. An expo is but one day in a 19 year grind of misery under the PPP. Not because a youth attends an expo it means that youth will vote for the promoter of that expo.
After the dancing, partying, playing with tech gadgets and the useless talk from government hacks, these youths will have to find passage to get home. That is those who didn’t get bused in to the expo.
When they get home, they will wake up tomorrow to the reality that they can’t find work.
That when they find work, the pay is a joke. That they have to put up with lecherous old perverts trying to sexually abuse them to exploit their economic vulnerability.
That they can’t afford the gadgets they see at these expos. That only the bigwigs from the PPP talking uselessness at these events can afford these gadgets. That 14 year olds working at McDonalds in the USA are making more money than them at their government position.
That Donald Ramotar, no matter how they wrap him and spin him, does not appeal to them and will never appeal to them. That they adore and need a Barack Obama, not a Bharrat Jagdeo or a Donald Ramotar.
That this misery they experienced under the PPP and continue to experience is the only thing they know. It is their history. It is the only reference they need to know not to vote for the same suffering.
