Jam Zone Masters’ Cup Round up …
Teams announced
By Sean Devers
Its’ just one day to go before the Jam Zone Master’s Cup T20 cricket semi-finals and the cricket fever is fast becoming infectious across Guyana.
Ticket sales for tomorrow’s two matches and Sunday’s games at the Guyana National Stadium has ‘picked up’ this week at Ashmin’s Trading and the Guyana Cricket Board Office in Georgetown while fans in Berbice claim the interest for the four-team competition is even greater in Guyana’s second largest County.
“We are working hard as a team and from what we are hearing the entire Berbice will be at the Stadium to support us. Berbicians love their cricket and with the (Berbice) Bridge now working we are banking on massive support this weekend,” Guyana opener Richard Ramdeen, who plays for the Universal DVD Berbice Titians, said.
The Gizmos & Gadgets Georgetown Pitbulls face New Line Cavaliers in the first semi-final from 17:00hrs tomorrow but the 21:00hrs match-up between Hits and Jams All Stars and the Berbice Titans is expected to produce non-stop fireworks.
Berbice has said they are not afraid of Chris Gayle who will play for the Hits and Jams All Stars along with overseas International Dwayne Bravo, Andrew Russell and Danza Hyatt.
Berbice is the only team not to utalise the option of having up to four foreign players in their side and they claim that off-spinner Krisendat Ramoo could be a threat since he dismissed Gayle the last time the Jamaican IPL Super Star played against Berbice last year.
“Chris is following the news on the competition since it is in the papers in Jamaica and he is not too pleased that Ramoo got him last year…He is planning to deal with him severely on Friday night,” a member of the Hits and Jams team informed.
Regional fans can follow the action on Radio since Caribbean commentator Andrew Mason informed that an agreement has been reached for the Line and Length network and Guyana’s NCN to do a joint broadcast with Mason and Barry Wilkinson expected to arrive in Guyana today.
The third place play-off is set for Providence from 14:00hrs on Sunday with the Finals to be played at 20:00hrs and the winner taking home US$10,000 or G$2 million. Tickets will cost double on the afternoon of the game and the tournament which has been sanctioned by the Guyana Cricket Board and approved by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is expected to be played in front of 15, 000 fans on each day.
IPL players Gayle, Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Jerome Taylor will all be in action along with West Indies players Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Smith, Fidel Edwards, Dale Richards, Davendra Bishoo, Royston Crandon, Brandon Bess, Lindl Simmons, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Leon Johnson, Royston Crandon, Chris Barnwell, Suleiman Benn and Krishmar Santokie.
Lots of added attractions for the fans including the presence of the dancing girls and Music in the Party stand is planned while the Guyana Under-19 side, International R&B Singer Trey Songz and the overseas contestants for the Miss Jam Zone Pageant will be at the ground tomorrow night; gates will be opened from 15:00hrs tomorrow.
