The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has selected a quad to represent Guyana at the 53rd Senior Caribbean Table Tennis (TT) Championships, which begins this weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
In a GTTA press release yesterday, it was stated that countries such as the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Guadeloupe, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia and St. Kitts are expected to participate.
President of the GTTA, Police Commissioner, Henry Greene, noted that all systems are in place for the successful hosting of the championships, according to the release.
The teams selected for the Championships are as follows:
Men’s Team: Paul David; Idi Lewis; Christopher Franklin; Nigel Bryan; Edinho Lewis; Paul Meusa; Joel Alleyne; Dwayne Dick and Hewley Griffith.
Women’s Team: Trenace Lowe; Michelle John; Jody-Ann Blake; Natalie Cummings; Akecia Nedd; Chelsea Edghill; Ambrose Thomas; Adielle Rushevelle.
Under-21 Men: Nigel Bryan; Brad Belle; Brandon Belle, Warren Hackshaw and Denzel Hopkinson.
Under 21 Women: Trenace Lowe; Michelle John and Chelsea Edghill.
Veteran Male: Patrick Triumph; Xenopiah Goliah; Marlon Washington; Colin France; Raynor Anderson.
Veteran female: Desiree Lancaster.
National Men’s Champion, Godfrey Munroe was named as the Head coach while other members of the coaching panel are Linden Johnson, Andrew Daly and Raynor Anderson. Patrick Triumph and Daly were selected as the Manager/Player and Assistant Manager respectively.
Meanwhile, the overseas teams participating in the 53rd Central America and Caribbean Senior Table Tennis Championships set for the National Sports Hall will commence arriving today.
The Trinidad and Tobago contingent includes France-based duo Dexter St. Louis and Rheann Chung who are expected to lead their medal quest. Both players had captured multiple crowns in Guyana in 2009.
The team will be arriving at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at 07:35hrs today. The Barbados players will be arriving at 0950hrs tomorrow August 12, 2011 and the team from Guadeloupe at 13:50hrs also tomorrow.
The participating teams will be involved in practice sessions at the National Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, between 13:00hrs and 15:00hrs today and 1300hrs and 19:00hrs tomorrow.
