The Leeward Islands made 146 all out in 38.1 overs replying to the Windward Islands total of 202 to hand the latter victory at Demerara Cricket Club yesterday when the first round of the Regional U-19 one day Cricket Tournament commenced.
The Leewards were in the hitch at the beginning of their innings after two consecutive wickets fell in the fourth over. Ray Jordon (2-21) captured both wickets in his fourth over to strike out Wasim Mintos (9) and Akeem Saunders (0) with his third and fifth ball respectively.

Terron Simon made two as Nino Henry and Collin Archibald were out for nought. Bronte Bess followed the lead of his Windward counterparts, disrupting Chavil Archibald (0) stumps as Larry Audain (5) was LBW to leave the Leewards at 119-6.
Larry Edward dismissed the two highest scorers from the Leeward Islands. Duan Webbe (37) lashed five entertaining fours from 61 balls before he was caught by Jordon off Edward. Facing 39 balls and hitting one six with eight compelling fours was Rakheem Cornwall who was just four runs off a half century. Tristan Hanley was 23 not out at the end to leave Leeward’s at 146 with 16 extras.
Jerlani Robinson (39) was the first batsman to be dismissed from the Windward Islands as he was LBW by Cornwall when they batted. The second and third wickets fell in the twentieth and twenty-first over respectively as Keon George (16) and Kavem Hodge (12) were dismissed by Hanley. Hanley’s wicket hunt was halted after the dismissal of Dwight Thomas (4).
Sunil Ambris (36) and Edward (20) stumps were removed by Henry as the Windward Islands reached 130-5. Ray Jordon scored 20 before he was caught by Henry off Audain. Terron Simon made nought.
Bess battered the balls of the Leeward Islands bowlers for two sixes with two fours to score 34 before he was bowled by Audain. Preston McSween was not out on 1 when the allotted 50 overs ended with the Windward Islands 202-9. (Juanita Hooper)
