Dear Editor,
I read the story I your Sunday edition ‘Businessman vows to prevent closure of sand-loading facility,’ where Mr. Bhaskarran is asking “relevant authorities to appoint a special investigator to investigate the sabotage of his property by a bunch of men, allegedly including a set of presidential guards, since he fears for his life and that of his family, employees, properties and equipment in the sand loading facility.
Mr. Bhaskarran said, “I need protection and justice” and I totally agree and empathize with him. However, there are some interesting points I would like to raise.
1.Mr. Bhaskarran stated in one of the newspapers, that he made contact with the A Division Commander as the incident was unfolding in the wee hours of the morning. He did not call the Timehri Police station. He also thanked the police for quick action, which I assume resulted from the phone call to the ‘Commander.’ That in itself is an indictment on the Police and its management which is like saying I do not have any faith in the local police, call the Commander. So what protection and justice is he asking for when he can call the top policeman in the Division and get instant action?
2.Like Mr. Bhaskarran, I too am asking why the team of vagabonds are not charged as yet, although I am no lawyer? What is being cooked up and on whose side of the opposing forces are the police and possible politicians? Based on what I have been hearing, even more were involved and this reportedly only came out when the presidential guard launched its own investigation. Two more were reportedly handed over to the police, so it seems as if Mr. Bhaskarran is right to ask for justice and protection.
3.In the papers, it was headlined that a minibus and a band of masked men were also involved, but somehow all seemed to have escaped undetected, since no one is hearing anything about that part of the investigation.
One can rightly ask why this end is not being pursued, and in answer to these questions, one may find the answer which leads to deliberate sloppiness and incompetence as usual by the police in the investigation of these matters.
Mr. Bhaskarran, like you, I am waiting to see what sort of twisted justice will come out of this matter, if any, given the players involved.
