With two matches in Guyana’s Jam Zone Masters’ Cup
Pugnacious Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies power-hitter Kieron Pollard will warm up for the August 27 Friends Life T20 cricket final in England with two matches this weekend in Guyana’s Jam Zone Masters’ Cup t20 cricket competition at the Guyana National Stadium.
Pollard, one of the most sought-after Twenty20 players in the world, clobbered a stunning 25-ball 47 which included four sixes to spur Somerset to a third consecutive Friends Life T20 finals and will now return to the Caribbean for a two-week break before heading back to England.
Last year, Pollard almost cleared the pavilion at Lord’s, and a huge six off Samit Patel here is believed to be the biggest at Trent Bridge since the towering stand was opened in 1998.
Pollard will now turn his attention to the opposing bowlers in Friday’s first semi-final of the Jam Zone Masters Cup which begins at 17:00hrs. The second semi final of the tournament which has attracted the leading West Indies t20 players, commences at 21:00hrs. The Third place play-off and Finals are fixed for Providence on Sunday.
Pollard will team up with West Indies players Jerome Taylor, Sulieman Benn and Krishmar Santokie as the four ‘overseas’ players in the Georgetown Pitbulls team.
Georgetown Pitbulls will be captained by former West Indies Skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan and includes West Indies t20 all-rounder Chris Barnwell and ex-West Indies under-19 players Steven Jacobs and Trevon Griffith.
The GT Pitbulls will be coached by Coach of the Guyana First-Class team Mark Harper, the former Guyana middle order batsman. The competition is being run by Hits and Jam Entertainment in partnership with the Guyana Cricket Board and has been approved by the West Indies Cricket Board.
