Aug 09, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
I refer to Mr. Vishnu Bisram’s letter published in the Kaieteur News of Monday, August 8, 2011, captioned ‘Bisram responds to Mayor Green’s Challenge’ in it he fails to deal with the essence of my letter; evidence and facts, not an old propaganda operation.
His campaign is reminiscent of Goebbels’s, who was Adolph Hitler’s propaganda Minister during the worst period of recent history, when he perfected the art of repeating a lie often enough until it became acceptable as truth.
It is unnecessary to go into a detailed reply except to remind this individual that, I stand ready, and I hope his kith and kin also stand ready, with the support of a lie detector, to go before any credible local, or international tribunal to deal with some of the bizarre references and implication of my personal involvement in his letter.
He has failed to come up with any proper response to the specific issues raised about the operation of National Service, but rather, has launched into calumnies.
Without wishing to refer to hundreds of events, he may now wish to help readers to identify ‘Paddy Man’, whose paddy was allegedly left on the Son Chapman which blew up killing 43 persons, and, if he can help us with the identity of the persons who raped, terrorized the Ishmael family killing some members and setting their home ablaze at Tain on the Corentyne. He may also wish to help us with the person or persons who set fire to the Hadfield Street house of Mr. Arthur Abraham killing him and seven children on June 12, 1964.
Mr. Abraham was Permanent Secretary to the Premier, Dr. Merida Jason, but according to a Freedom House release, was “promoted as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works” just before this slaughter.
He may wish to help us out with details of machine guns found on known PPP supporters, and the weapons of destruction stuffed in rice bags at the Rice Board controlled by the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP), and the fire set in cane fields during strikes initiated by the PPP.
Mr. Bisram is clearly part of a plot to demonize the People’s National Congress leadership, ignoring that it was they (the PPP) who unleashed violence, and in many instances, as happened in Mahaicony, the PNC members were forced to defend themselves.
He can also help us out with who pulled the trigger that cause the death in 1962 of Superintendent Deryck Mc Leod; evidence showed that the bullet came from some shooter to the west of Camp Street in Robb Street, from some elevation above ground level near a certain Party Office.
I need not burden this letter with more facts, but since he wants to talk about rigging, he can very well remind us why the PPP, in spite of a high court order, which said that they were irregularities committed by the PPP during the 1961 elections in the Houston Constituency, the Court had ordered that a by elections be held.
In spite of protestations by the PNC, this by-election was never held. He can tell us what was the result when the PPP failed to have their way after the 1962 Independence
Conference, what was meant by a hurricane of protests. As he is wont to recall the past, he can tell us the whole story of March 28, 1963 when an estate school bus was blown up on the East Coast of Demerara injuring children like little Candy Pierre, the D’Aguiars, the Dodds boys, and killing young Godfrey Teixeira, in response to the hue and cry raised by the large number of concerned Guyanese spanning every section of the population, the Mirror, the PPP mouth-piece, carried this in its Editorial “they did not weep for the children of Kowsilla.”
And what about Joslyn John of Meten-Meer-Zorg who was blasted to death on his way to board a train at De Kinderen, and the chopping up of a Station Master who was saved by Pandit Tiwarl.
Also, the background to Gool Khan, Shakoor Manraj, Balwant Singh, Doodnauth Hetram and Jankl Persaud being charged on June 1964 for seditious writings.
This gentleman must know that only the whole truth and reconciliation can take our country forward in peace, not distortions and in some cases, the figment of one’s imagination.
I welcome a truth commission, and as I said before, to meet this gentleman at an open public forum to discuss and debate his many fulminations about our history.
Hamilton Green
