Students of Carnegie School of Economics were stripped searched by police officers on Tuesday last for a student’s missing Blackberry cell phone.
Parents complain that none of them were present during the search and that this is against the law as the students are no older than 16 year old.
According to the head of the School, Penelope Harry, the incident was not as bad as it sounds, since none of the students were touched by the officers and that they were in separate “toilets” when they were undressed.
“I was present and kept a watch on the officers, so as to make sure they don’t touch the children. The male students were searched by male officers while the female students were searched by female officers,” added Harry.
“It affect we and it wasn’t nice, because we had to strip fuh dem see, and I really didn’t like it,” said an older student.
Harry related that she had to stop the officers from taking the students to the station because no parent was there to accompany the children.
While all the children were thoroughly searched, the phone was not recovered
When contacted, the police Public Relations Officer refused to comment on the issue.
Kaieteur News also made contact with the Brickdam Police Station where the matter was reported but was only told that the matter was still being investigated.
