The Basketball youth camp organized by the Berbice Basketball Association for youngsters in the East Berbice area is going well according to Coach Kirk Fraser.
The sessions which began on Monday July 25 and is expected to end today, Sunday August 7. The sessions were held from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12 pm, at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball court. A number of youngsters including both male and females were taught the intricacies of the sport.
Coach Kirk Fraser, who is also President of the Berbice Basketball Association (BBA), has been in charge of the programme and he was assisted by a number of other persons including some senior basketball players in Berbice.
Fraser said that the youths have responded well to training and seems a good crop for the future. They have conducted sessions in basic Basketball, which included passing, shooting, dribbling, intercepting and team building among some other moves.
They are also expected to do some session on social ills, health and Hygiene including sessions on HIV/AIDS, Drug Abuse and delinquency.
Before the end of the sessions the youths will be involved in some community activities in and around the town of New Amsterdam. Certificates are also expected to be issued to the successful participants.
The next major task by the Berbice Basketball Association will be the renovation and enhancement of the facilities at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball court.
