A 70-year-old pensioner was badly hurt on Saturday while he was on the Cumberland Public Road around 18:30 hours,
in the vicinity of Main Street.
According to reports, Richard Archer, who was employed with a local butchery in the area, was heading home on his bicycle after visiting his sister, when he was hit by a motorcycle heading in the opposite direction.
The injured pensioner was immediately admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where surgery is expected to be performed on his broken hip on Friday.
The rider of the motorcycle, a pandit from the East Bank of Berbice, had to report to the New Amsterdam Police Station. He is expected to be charged shortly.
