‘Destination Guyana’ is being featured in an online reality series called ‘Around the World for Free’ (ATWFF).
‘ATWFF’ is an online/broadcast hybrid reality series based on the concept of whether a person can circle the globe without any money. It follows a reality star as they attempt to travel around the world without any money on hand.
Three-time contestant of the reality television (TV) show ‘Survivor’ Parvati Shallow is hosting the popular online reality series for Season Three going on a 100-day journey which commenced on July 7, 2011. She has visited four countries so far including the United States, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Barbados.
Shallow is the winner of the reality TV series Survivor: Micronesia and had previously competed in Survivor: Cook Islands where she placed sixth and later was the runner-up in Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.
The team which also include Executive Producer, Mr. Alex Boylan who is a reality TV contestant, TV show host and producer, and Zsolt Luka, cameraman and Creative Director, will spend some seven days in Guyana exploring our country’s pristine natural beauty and experience our diverse culture and will visit places like Arrowpoint Resort, Kaieteur, Iwokrama, Surama and Lethem.
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce recently met with Shallow and Boylan, at his South Road office, in Georgetown.
Prashad said that they are very happy to welcome the team into Guyana, explaining, “They are attempting to go around the world in 100 days with no money so they just arrive in any country unannounced.”
He noted that Shallow volunteered to work as a flight attendant on REDjet in order to travel to Guyana from Barbados.
He said the Ministry of Tourism will assist in coordinating her stay in Guyana during which she will visit various parts of the country.
“We are very happy to have you in Guyana and with people like you coming to Guyana on your adventure – it can only help to showcase and promote Guyana with our eco, nature and adventure tourism,” Prashad said.
He said unlike our Caribbean counterparts with sun, sand and sea, our country offers a different kind of tourism boasting over 80 per cent of pristine rainforests, natural beauty and wonderful flora and fauna.
The Tourism Minister noted that ‘Guyana – the Amazon Adventure’ is now placed on the map internationally being recognised for its eco, nature and adventure-based tourism and Guyana is pursuing a Low Carbon Development Strategy with His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo receiving the prestigious Champion of the Earth Award by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
“This (the series) will only help to promote Guyana as a destination of choice,” Minister Prashad said.
He noted that Guyana has already being featured in several top international publications and travel magazines and the country is becoming an attractive film and documentary destination.
To date for the year, several filming has been done including for a French-based production company Bo Travail, for part of a television magazine documentary series called “Echappees Belles”.
Guyana will be featured in the popular television series title “Alone in the Wild”, coming September, and also the British Broadcasting Corporation ten-part series retracing the footsteps of Sir Walter Raleigh in search of the fabled City of Gold, El Dorado will be aired coming October, adding to the country’s growing international exposure while Icon Films commissioned by Animal Planet, was also in Guyana in March filming for a two-hour documentary.
The concept for the show was created by Alex Boylan, Emmy-nominated Editor and Director Zsolt Luka and Burton Roberts, who is also the producer of Camp Reality and was a cast member on Survivor: Pearl Islands.
