DDL announced their sponsorship of the G & Lower W/A Class race on the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club ‘Post Emancipation Day Race Meeting’ yesterday at DDL Headquarters in Kingston. This meet is set for August 14 at their Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice racetrack.
At a briefing yesterday Justice Cecil Kennard received the checque and trophy from El Dorado Brand Manager, Jeranzee Marques. The media were informed that DDL has always supported the development of sport in Guyana. “DDL has supported the development of sports in Guyana and we are pleased to do so once again. For a number of years, we at DDL/ El Dorado Rum have been associated with the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club and this year is no different,” Jeranzee Marques said.
Mr. Kennard was grateful for the El Dorado’s sponsorship for his meet, noting that it plays an important role in the activity. “I wish to thank El Dorado Brand for their support in the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club Meet… they have supported us for about 40 years and there has not been a meeting that we have not received sponsorship from DDL.”
Mr. Kennard is very confident that the support he has received over the years from DDL will continue. “We have a good working relation with DDL and I am absolutely confident that this sort of support we have been getting over the years with continue… sponsorship is absolutely necessary for the successful promotion of any sporting activity,” he said.
According to Mr. Kennard, horseracing in Guyana is coming real well; however there are a few problems that have to be sorted out before the end of the year. He noted that it is hoped that drafted legislation of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority is enforced before the end of the year. Mr. Kennard informed that a document is with the Minster of Sports for presentation in Parliament, which he hopes will be passed at the earliest to ensure a level playing field in the sport, which will encourage persons from Trinidad to be involved in our races.
