The Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) will come alive when organizers of that club stage the Carib Beer Post Emancipation Day horse race meeting scheduled for the club’s Bush Lot Farm Corentyne headquarters on Sunday August 14.
Even as the organizers address the requisite modalities for a qualitative, action packed event, Ansa McAl, the beverage giants of Betterverwagting ECD has acquiesced to a sponsorship deal that will ensure that horse race lovers enjoy a full day of unbridled action.
Judging by the smile plastered on Mr. Worrell's face, the sponsorship package could be nothing less than lucrative.
Yesterday afternoon, brand coordinator of the sponsors, Nigel Worrell, visited the Brickdam office of Justice Cecil Kennard and handed over a lucrative package to significantly offset the expenses associated with the activity. Justice Kennard accepted the gift and relayed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Worrell and other executives of the Ansa McAl Ltd.
“This is the first time that we have been able to clinch a sponsorship deal from Ansa McAL and we wish to convey our gratitude even as we anticipate support of a similar nature in the future,” exhorted Mr. Kennard moments after the gift had exchanged hands. He further promised an action packed event and urged turfites to be at the venue early so as not to miss any of the action. Mr. Worrell said that his company is extremely delighted to be a part of the promotion and reminded that they are always willing to fulfill their corporate responsibility.
Meanwhile, horserace lovers would not want to miss the event since the promise of action galore should not be taken lightly. The organizers have indicated that a team of qualitative horses and capable jockeys would be on show. Some of the animals on show will be Prince Charming, red Cloud and Zeblick to name a few.
Nine races are carded for the day with the feature attraction being the B and Lower class over a distance of 7 furlongs.
The winner is assured of a purse of one million dollars while the second place finisher receives half of that amount. Third and fourth win $250,000 and $125,000 respectively.
The organizers have also added an additional race; the race between the two years old Guyana bred horses over a distance of 5 furlongs. The winner collects $200,000, while the G and Lower class over 7 furlongs for a total prize package of $300,000 for the winner.
Organizers are reminding horse owners that the event is being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA), all of which would be employed.
Apart from Ansa McAl several other corporate entities have thrown in their lot to ensure that patron enjoy a great day at the tracks. they include Le Meridien Hotel, Nigel’s Supermarket, D Gobin Agri Spares Center, Lucky Dollar, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Lombard Street, Horse Shoe and Goodwood Racing Services, Ansa McAl (Carib), New GPC, Hand in Hand Insurance, Nand Persaud and Company Ltd, DDL and IPA.
Horse owners are reminded that the registration period close this Sunday, August 7 and they can register their animals with Justice Cecil Kennard (226-1399, 225-4818, or 623-7609), Roopnarine Matadial aka Shine (325-3192), Ivan Dipnarine (331-0316), Isabella Beaton (325-3007, 693-7812) or Lionel Moonsammy (614-5812).
