The action in the Kares T10 softball cricket tournament has only just begun to intensify when the organizers, Guyana Softball league, unanimously voted to place all activities on hold. Further, they are adamant that this will be the status quo until the sponsors, Kares Engineering and Bushy Park, honour an earlier agreement made by the two groups.
A release from the organizers implores the sponsor to take cognizance of its moral responsibility. The release did not elaborate but further states that the organizers feel constrained to temporarily abort the tournament until the sponsor keep their end of the bargain. Officials of the Guyana Softball League (GSL) believe that the communities and people who have put in the hard work must be amply rewarded.
“This has been happening for a little while and the people along with the organization feel frustrated by the attitude of the sponsor,” said the release. The organization will release more information on the issues in the coming weeks as their investigation continues. Consequently, officials of the GSL apologized to the nation for this development while extending the hope that good sense prevails on the part of the sponsor.
“The GSL in its quest to preserve the high quality and standards of the sport will not compromise its standard and will ensure that the real winners of the tournament are the people of the communities of Guyana and the game of cricket,” stated the release.
The organizers also wish the public to note that they are the sole authority of the tournament contrary to reports circulating in the press stating otherwise.
They noted that Kares Engineering are just the sponsors and are only responsible for the promotional aspect and the provision of grounds. As such, they have no authority over the current matches.
