Horserace lovers that have attended events staged by the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) will admit that those events have always been action packed. This is due, largely in part, to the qualitative horses and the capable jockeys that straddle them. Further, the lucrative prizes on offer have always been the catalyst for the nail biting encounters that have characterized these meets.
Once again, the KMTC will be delivering the goods when the organizers of that club stage the Post Emancipation Day racing meeting scheduled for the club’s Bush Lot Farm Corentyne headquarters on Sunday August 14.
Nine races are carded for the day with the feature attraction being the B and Lower class over a distance of 7 furlongs. The winner is assured of a purse of one million dollars while the second place finisher receives half of that amount. Third and fourth win $250,000 and $125,000 respectively.
The organizers have also added an additional race; the race between the two years old Guyana bred horses over a distance of 5 furlongs. The winner collects $200,000, while the G and Lower class over 7 furlongs for a total prize package of $300,000 for the winner.
In total, there will be 9 events with lots of lucrative prizes for the winners. Turfites could look forward to the treat in store especially since most of the animals participating in the races are doing good gallops at their respective stables.
Organizers are reminding horse owners that the event is being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA), all of which would be employed.
The organizers are grateful for the support of the members of the corporate community that have acquiesced to lucrative sponsorship packages. They include Le Meridien Hotel, Nigel’s Supermarket, D Gobin Agri Spares Center, Lucky Dollar, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Lombard Street, Horse Shoe and Goodwood Racing Services, Ansa McAl (Carib), New GPC, Hand in Hand Insurance, Nand Persaud and Company Ltd, DDL and IPA.
Horse owners are reminded that the registration period close this Sunday, August 7 and they can register their animals with Justice Cecil Kennard (226-1399, 225-4818, or 623-7609), Roopnarine Matadial aka Shine (325-3192), Ivan Dipnarine (331-0316), Isabella Beaton (325-3007, 693-7812) or Lionel Moonsammy (614-5812). Horse owners are also asked to have their animals examined by the vet by 11:00hrs on race day.
