Grande Roja! Grande Who? The name sounds unfamiliar? Yes, Grande Roja of the Jumbo Jet stable, that’s the horses that created even the biggest upset yet in the horseracing circle in Guyana for the year. Grande Roja a D1 Bay mare imported from the USA just over a month ago and ridden by Jamaica Jockey, Andron Findley, with no previous wins under its belt, stunned the field to the take the feature C class event and the $600,000 first prize compliments of Banks DIH and the Akash Singh Supermarket Trophy when the Port Mourant Turf Club staged their Annual Emancipation One day seven event horserace meet on Sunday last.
Running from down in the pack, it took a devastating run down the homestretch by Grande Roja being brilliantly ridden by Findley to stun the fans and field in the 1500M event. As the race got underway it was Wad a Luck and Gullium that did much of the early front running. Donut Prince came up to challenge and eased into second with the chasing pack in hot pursuit. Just about the half way mark Gullium of the Jagdeo stable with Ramnauth in control took over as the race continued into the far turn and into the homestretch.
When it looked like Gullium would have brought it home it was then that Findley aboard Grande Roja made his devastating move to overtake the leader on the inside to capture the top prize for its first placement and win in three starts in Guyana. Miss Orientate eased into third with Pinch the Cash fourth.
According to trainer Sham ‘Shortman’ Chattergoon it is just the start of things to come as the animal isn’t fully acclimatize as yet.

Celebrating Love with Liverpool on mount helped the Jagdeo connection celebrate as it finished second ahead of Face the Fire and Captain Cook.
Sabrina Princess also of The Jagdeo stable with Ramnauth again on the perch returned to the track with a bang as it cantered to an easy victory in the E class event over 1500M and the $300,000 top money and the Crown Spot Lemonade trophy.
The animal showed on effect of the lengthy seven months lay off. After taking the lead it was never challenged even as second placed Night Crescendo give it all in a bid to catch up. Majestic finished third ahead of Appealing Harvest.
Serenity of the Jumbo Jet stable with Findley once again on the mount, took care of business with an easy win in the two year old event for Guyana and West Indies bred horses to cart away the $300,000 first prize and the Suren Ganesh trophy in the 1000M event from Blessings to make it two wins for the connection of the entity.
There was much controversy in the G class 1200M event which was won by Top of The Line of the Jumbo Jet stable with Appadhu on mount for the $240,000 top prize and the Ganesh gas station Trophy. Momzele, Zeolona and Maracas Star were the others that placed. However there was a protest that Top of The Line ran out of its category. The matter is being investigated.

First it won the 13 race from Diplomat, Infinity and J.D Junior. It then won the I2 race from Zebra, Apostle and J.D Junior. The wins were worth $120,000 and $140,000 each and both trophies were donated by El Dorado Homes and Crystal Hall of the USA.
