The Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport (MCYS) in collaboration with Businessman Roger Hinds will be hosting an
Emancipation Day Football Competition today at the Mahdia Centre ground in Region 9.
Central Mahdia’s under-17 line-up will engage Campbelltown from 18:00 hrs in the opening fixture, while the feature game of this evening’s double-header is between the Mahdia senior team and the community’s Under-23 unit from 20:00hrs.
Both games will be played under flood lights and Mahdia’s Sports Organiser Feroze Mootoo Beeks said that a riveting competition is anticipated with the under-23s looking to avenge their loss to the seniors in last year’s competition.
This is the fourth annual tournament run off by the Sports Ministry in the area and Elroy Mendonca will lead the Mahdia senior team, while Quacy Leitch is expected to lend valuable support.
Rennie Mendonca will Captain the under-23 team while skillful back-up is anticipated to come from Devon Joseph and Bobby Mendonca.
In the opening clash the Central Mahdia under-17 will be aiming to make it two in a row after their victory against the Campbelltown line-up in last year’s competition.
Hinds has donated attractive cash incentives for outstanding performers and Parliamentary Secretary in the MCYS Steve Ninvalle will be on hand for the action and to make the presentation at the end of the four-team competition.
