Guyana’s representatives to Isles of Mann Games triumph in amateur Proam card

Guyana’s two boxing representatives, Marvin Ageday and Benjamin Henry, currently encamped for international duty in the Isles of Mann sometime in September, both registered easy victories when they faced off against different opponents in the July edition of the Fight Night boxing card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) Friday evening last.
Representing the North West Boxing Gym, Benjamin prevailed over Dellon Charles in their bantamweight clash, while Ageday stopped Kishon Simon in 1:24secs the second stanza after the referee decided that the letter pugilist was out of his league.
Henry (NWBG) started the bout aggressively and had Dellon Charles on the back foot for the greater part of the first round. The slimly built Henry also forced the referee to institute an eight count midway into the round after he connected with a solid right to his opponent’s head. He continued to be aggressive into the second frame and as his confidence grew he increased the pressure. At one time Henry enjoyed a field day, punching away at Charles who failed to offer adequate resistance. Despite his below average showing, one judge thought that Charles had done enough to win. The two other judges disagreed.
Representing the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF), Marvin Ageday was definitely a notch above Kishon Simon (PRBG) and punched his way to a technical knockout win in 1:24secs of the second stanza after the referee decided that the latter was incapable of defending himself.
In other amateur bouts, Marlon Darrel overcame Lester Fraser by a 3-0 decision in their jnr/welterweight bout. Both boxers were guilty of excessive holding but in the end it was Darrel who distinguished himself with a strong third round effort that eventually earned him the verdict.
Bantamweight Ricola Warrior representative Dexter Wray then bullied his way to a 3-0 decision over Kevin Allicock. Wray demonstrated good offensive tactics and often had his man covering up. When the latter fighter eventually found a rhythm and a spirited input in the third stanza, it proved to be too little too late. He lost by a 3-0 verdict.
