Prognosis for the two Homestretch accident victims who are currently hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) is very good.
Reports are that the eight-year-old US-based Guyanese Renisha Benjamin-Moore was supposed to have been discharged.
However she is still a patient at the GPHC’s Pediatric Ward.
She had sustained serious injuries and was previously in the Intensive Care Unit, but due to the vast improvement in her situation, she was placed in the Pediatric Ward.
The young girl, who is almost back to normal, still has bandages around her head and her right foot is still in a cast.
She can sit up, eat and speak properly without pain and is anxiously awaiting her discharge.
The other victim, 10-year-old Shawn Archibald was placed on a life support machine in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) after being transferred from the ICU of the hospital during the first few days after the accident.
He was taken off of the machine and warded in the Pediatric Ward shortly after.
A relative said that the young boy had received a number of stitches on his head as a result of the injuries he sustained.
She said that she was pleased to note that he is now “coming around”.
Last Sunday Kaieteur News was told that Archibald could speak properly and regained his senses, though he cried out for pain, and could only consume a “liquid diet”.
Two days later, his family was concerned when the young lad became delusional and could not recognize them at times.
But from good treatment and services offered at the GPHC, he began to snap out of his delusional state and is almost his usual self minus the stitches about his head.
His family is thankful that the nurses and doctors on duty throughout the healing process were very patient and took special care of the little boy.
