The body of the late Clyde Duncan will be laid to rest on August 7 and preparations for his funeral is being finalised.
The Guyanese International Cricket Umpire, who stood in the last of his six T20 Internationals last year when West Indies played South Africa, died on July 27 in Trinidad where he was receiving treatment for Cancer. He was 57.
Duncan, who served as Secretary of the Cricket World Cup Operations when Guyana hosted the mega event in 2007, officiated in two Test matches at Bourda in 1991 and 1994 after standing in the first of his 21 ODIs in 1988 when West Indies played Pakistan at Bourda.
Umpire Duncan, a member of the teaching profession in Guyana, leaves to morn his wife Fay and children Dr. Tracey Duncan-Clarke, Joanna, Troy and Susanna and hundreds in the cricket fraternity.
Duncan will be remembered as a humble gentleman and true professional who carried out his various cricket related tasks without fear or favour and who was always willing to assist other Umpires to develop their trade.
Norman Malcolm, Secretary of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Council and ICC Umpire, Dominican Billy Doctrove both signaled their intentions to be in Guyana for the funeral of their fallen colleague. (Sean Devers)
