Bankers Trust will host a Pre-Emancipation Day of Cycling Events today on the popular course in Amelia’s Ward, Linden as part of its resuscitation of the sport in the community. The country will be celebrating Emancipation Day tomorrow.
According to Bankers’ Trust, Rene Stoby, the event pedals off at 12 noon with a seven-race card including categories 6-9 years, 9-12 years, Open BMX, Mountain Bikes, Juveniles, Juniors and Seniors in what is expected to be filled with intense rivalries. The event is expected to feature the top cyclists from Linden, including Rastaff O’Selmo and Hazina Barath.
“Basically, we are doing this to continue the resuscitation of the sport in Linden. We love cycling here and we have to ensure that we do our best to keep the sport alive in the community. We will make this event a regular feature in Linden,” Stoby indicated.
According to the organiser, cash, trophies and prizes will be up for grabs. Overseas-based former Guyanese cyclists, Mark and Alwyn Jardine are among the sponsors of the event. Cellular Plus and Giftland OfficeMax are the other major sponsors.
