Speeding minibus kills Mc Doom pedestrian

Mc Doom resident, Kawall Kassiram, was killed on the spot around 19:30 hrs yesterday after he was run over by a minibus near his home.
Eyewitnesses said that Kassiram, who was in his forties and from Lot 10 Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, had just left a shop in the area.
He was crossing the eastern carriageway on his way back home when a speeding bus heading up the East Bank of Demerara struck him. He was killed instantly.
The vehicle stopped about 300 metres away from the scene.
Police have impounded the bus and detained the driver at the Brickdam Police Station.
Residents who knew Kassiram said that he lived alone and had no relatives in Guyana.
A brother who lives overseas has been notified of his death.
Residents described the East Bank Demerara public road as a “race course.”
Minutes after the body was removed, minibus drivers and the owners of other vehicles could be observed driving recklessly along the same roadway.
