West Indies newest start cricketer Devendra Bishoo was on Thursday honoured by the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry at a simple ceremony held on Thursday on the Lawns of Republic Bank in New Amsterdam.
Bishoo, who burst onto the International Scene after being selected to represent the West Indies at the ICC world Cup, has been being performing exceptionally for the West Indies since then. Bishoo, who hails from the Chesney, Corentyne area and represented Guyana at all levels of the game, was recognized for his elevation to and sterling contribution in West Indies colours so far.
Chairman of the proceedings, former Berbice Cricketer and Treasurer of the Berbice cricket Board and member of BCCI, Anil Beharry, highlighted some of Bishoo’s achievement so far and mentioned his spectacular catch he took in the India verses West Indies match to dismiss Harbhajan Singh as one of the best seen.
Beharry urged Bishoo to continue to strive for higher heights and remain humble and more pleasantries will come his way. He mentioned that not too long ago Bishoo was water boy and room attendant for many of his now teammates.
Bishoo in his remarks thanked the BCCI for recognizing him and stated that he is humbled by the recognition.
He stated that he will continue to work hard in maintaining his fitness and to improving and maintaining a high standard in his game.
He will strive hard to make Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies proud. Bishoo received a trophy and a Certificate.
