Dear editor,
I refer to KAIETEUR NEWS article of 27th July 2011 captioned “ BCB SLAMS GUYANA CHRONICLE FOR MISCHIEVIOUS ARTICLE”.
I, Carol Nurse, am the Assistant Secretary of the Berbice Cricket Board and was present at the purported Executive Meeting of the BCB, referred to by Miss Angela Haniff.
I would like to unequivocally state that at no time did the members present authorised anyone or take any decision to take its parent body, the GCB, to court.
In fact, only four elected officers of the BCB were present at this meeting which, in my view, did not even constitute a quorum as our constitution states that six elected officers of the BCB must be present before a quorum is formed.
Present at this meeting were Mr. Keith Foster, Mr. Anil Beharry , Miss Angela Haniff and myself along with a co opted member.
Contrary to Miss Haniff’s claim that the BCB is united on this issue, I would like to state that I, and many others, disagree with her decision to be misled by persons outside of Berbice to commit the Board to such embarrassment. I was a legal delegate at the GCB AGM and, in my presence, President Keith Foster presented our list of delegates.
Present at that AGM, from the Berbice list of delegates were Mr. Foster, Mr. David Black, Miss. Angela Haniff and myself.
With Essequibo having a full complement of nine delegates a quorum was present throughout the meeting until Mr. Foster announced that the BCB will not participate in the item “election of office Bearers”.
This also surprised me since; at no time did we decide not to participate in this part of the meeting. However, I hesitantly obliged, but our First Vice President Mr. Black objected and told Mr. Foster that he was there as an elected Delegate to the AGM and will continue in the process.
I must also state that both Mr. Foster and Miss Haniff actively participated in the GCB AGM.
Miss Haniff even presented Two Motions , one being the Term limit of Three Consecutive Two years on the GCB Presidency. What hypocrisy to now say that you did not participate in the process.
I am convinced that this legal action has no basis and that the GCB will win, however, I do hope that the penalties levied is against Miss Haniff and not the BCB or its membership as I am poor woman.
Carol Nurse.
