The horseracing band wagon makes its next stop on Sunday July 31 at the Port Mourant Turf Club and preparation is almost complete for the Club’s Grand annual One day Pre Emancipation Horserace meet, at their track at Port Mourant Corentyne, Berbice.
With just a few days remaining before race day, there are over 60 entries so far in what is expected to be another top notch day of racing. Fans will be anxious to see the return of Sabrina Princess after a long lay-off.
The last time the horse raced it ran away with a $1M first prize in another upset story.
Over $4M dollars is at stake for the seven event meet which will include cash and trophies along with gate prizes. Beverage giants, Banks DIH Limited and Digicel, Sheriff Racing Stables, Innovative Construction are among the sponsors.
The feature event is for B class horses with a tantalizing $600,000 plus a trophy available for the winner in the 1500M event. Among those entered are Champtress, Stormy Flame, Grand De Roja, Donut Prince, Marathon Man, Miss Orientate and Mr. Gold Finger.
The 3-yrs-old race is for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies also over 1500M and has a tantalizing $400,000 and trophy as its winning incentive. Better than Gold, Gold Plated, Northern Dancer, Celebration Love, Captain Cook and Technology are among those entered.
The animals competing in the E class race which is also a 1500M event will see the winner racing away with $300,000 and trophy.
Sabrina Princess, Tropical Passion, Appealing Harvest, Fresh Prospect, Majestic and Top of the Line are set to battle in this race.
The Two year old race is also for Guyana and West Indies bred horses over a distance of 1000M with the winner copping $300,000 and trophy.
The ‘G class 1200M gallop with a winners money of $240,000 and trophy and will see Top of the Line, Maya, Prado’s Gold, Stormy Lass and Megan’s Choice battling for honours.
There is $140,000 available for the winner of the ‘I’ and Lower event which covers a distance of1200M. The event has such horses as Extra Heat, Apostle, and Princess Renukha in the reckoning.
There is a race for JKL horses also over 1200M with a winning purse of $120,000 and trophy among the entries so far are Cash connection, Infinity T.D junior and Pinky.
The day’s event will be run under the auspices of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority as such owners, grooms and trainers are asked to get their animals properly registered before race day. Those animals that are not properly registered will not be allowed to participate in the day’s proceedings. Anyone found contravening any of the rules will be penalized accordingly.
Outstanding individual performers including top Jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market.
