The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (G.P.H.C) has said that there is no truth in a news report captioned ‘Child crippled due to faulty delivery’.
The article published on July 24, 2011 had blamed the hospital for using forceps during a delivery.
The mother, Sam, had said that the object she added was vivid in her head but she was unaware of what it was until she saw a picture with details attached to it online.
On Tuesday, in a press release, the hospital stated it has not used any such tool since October 2007.
The statement also pointed out that the article was published “without affording the Hospital the chance to clarify the misinformation.
The hospital stated that the child being crippled was due to her being born severely asphyxiated which was reportedly due to prolonged labour.
The Apgar score, which determines the baby’s abilities at the time of delivery, was very low.
The GPHC Public Relation’s Officer also stated in the press release that Divya’s seizure attacks were properly managed by the Hospital’s Neonatal Unit.
It added that the mother, Sam, was indeed incised (as stated in the article on Sunday 24 July, 2011). “Again no Forceps were used” stressed the officer.
The Hospital said that nevertheless, it expressed empathy to any child who faces such ordeals.
The Corporation then targeted the relationship shared by the reporter and the “alleged complainant” stating that the article was inaccurate, and that it was bias.
