U-20 ‘Lady Jags’ wrap up successful camp in Toronto
Guyana’s Under-20 ‘Lady Jags’ wrapped up a very successful camp in Toronto held from July 11-16. A total of Eighteen (18) players drawn from Canada, United Kingdom and United States of America were in attendance all vying for spots to represent Guyana in the Under-20 World Cup Qualifying competition set to kick off in October 2011 in Anguilla.

The Guyanese will face the host nation, Antigua & Barbuda and the Dominican Republic in the first round.
A press release from the Coaching staff said they were very pleased with the high level of play from the entire group with several players shining. Expectations are high with regards to this team excelling given the fact that a total of five (5) players are returning from the senior Lady Jags unit which competed in the Gold Cup Finals, 2010 in Mexico.
Standout Center defender from the senior team – Justine Rodrigues #7, and midfield player Ashlee Savona #4 took on huge leadership roles at the camp which was hosted by the Erin Mills Soccer Club.
Erin Mills provided the competition from a combined Under-21 Provincial team, the Lady Jags winning 6-3. Erin Mills scored first early in the game which woke the Guyanese girls up and they went on to score four unanswered goals to put the game away by the half.
This allowed the coaching staff to experiment with players in various positions, in an effort to recognize specific player’s strengths and weaknesses.
Technical Director – Mark Rodrigues and Coach Chris Brown conducted the camp and are very optimistic that this group of players will successfully return to the Gold Cup Finals and obtain better results than their senior counterparts, subject to the availability of players during qualifying.
The staff will now assess the players at the camp with other players that were unable to attend, but have been observed playing at some point prior, including players from Guyana, and select the eighteen (18) best and most suited players that will make the run to the World Cup Finals in 2012.
Guyana’s Under-17 Lady Jags are currently in camp locally with Guyana Football federation Technical Development Officer Lyndon France in charge. Head Coach Hope Clark of Georgia State and College is expected to arrive in Guyana shortly to work with Coach France in the team’s preparation.
Qualifying starts August 10-28 with Guyana hosting against Anguilla and the Netherland Antilles.
