Newborn on Merriman’s Mall…
The Child Care and Protection Agency says they have been overwhelmed with responses by the public for the adoption of the infant who was abandoned on the Merriman’s Mall a few weeks ago.
However, according to Head of the Child Care and Protection Agency, Ms. Ann Greene, the child will remain in foster care for now since the adoption law states that a child can only be legally adopted after six weeks would have elapsed. But in the meantime, the Agency will be conducting screening and investigations.
“We have to conduct thorough investigations and do background checks into these persons who are seeking to adopt, and then we will select the best suited couple.”
On July 5, last, the newborn boy was reportedly found by persons passing through the Merriman’s Mall. They wrapped the child in a jersey and took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
The baby was admitted to the institution for awhile and was subsequently handed over to the Child Care and Protection Agency.
