Former national youth player Kellon Carmichael grabbed 2-38 and stroked an entertaining 48 as Chris Barnwell’s X1 beat Steven Jacobs’ X1 by 32 runs at DCC yesterday in the Georgetown Pitbulls t20 trial match.
The match was used to select the City side for the August 12 &14 Jam Zone Master’s Cup t20 cricket competition at the Guyana National Stadium.
Barnwell’s X1 batted first and reached 153-9 off their allotted 20 overs as Jamal Hinckson led the way with 42. Derwin Christian (25), Charwayne McPherson (22) and Shemroy Barrington (15) supported as pacer Kevin Odle and off-spinner Steven Jacobs also had two wickets each.
Jacobs’ X1 were restricted to 121-8 when their 20 overs expired despite Carmichael’s 48 as only David Dick of the other batsmen reached 25.
National t20 player Andre Stoll had 2-14, while pacer Quasen Nedd and Off-spinner Randy Lindore had 2-8 and 2-16 respectively.
Former West Indies Captain Guyanese Ramnaresh Sarwan, who was unavailable yesterday, will lead the Georgetown Pitbulls side which will include overseas Internationals Keiron Pollard, Nain Stewart, test left-arm spinner Suleiman Benn and Jamaican pacer Krishmar Santokie.
The cricket competition, organised by Hits and Jams Entertainment as a part of their 11th annual Jam Zone Summer Break activities, has been sanctioned by the Guyana Cricket Board, will be officially launched today at 14:00hrs at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. (Sean Devers)
