The various winners in the recently concluded Rite Care Pharmacy sponsored Linden Schools Table Tennis individual championship were presented on Thursday with their trophies by owner of the business in Linden, Mr. Dennis Muhammad.
Seakou Joseph won the Boys Under 21 category of the Singles Table Tennis championships which were contested at the Linmine Constabulary Hall and organised by Linden based ITTF recognized coaches Raynor ‘Copter’ Anderson and Howard James.
The tournament was for players who were under their guidance during a programme which was endorsed by the Linden Table Tennis Committee (LTTC) and the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).
The competition saw Seakou Joseph defeating Quacy Rice in the Under 21 final 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9 while Ricardo Anderson stopped Joseph in the Boys Under-18 final, after dropping the first set at 4, but winning the others at 11- 8, 11-8 and 11-7. The Boys Under-15 final which was contested between Travis Francis and Isaiah Alphonso ended with Francis triumphing 9-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9 and 14-12.
However, the Boys Under-13 was decided by a walkover where Troy Stephens won when Tyric McAllister failed to show for his match. Muhammad pledged his continued support for the game and said he was always interested in giving back to sports and was encouraged to sponsor this tournament for table tennis players in the Mining Town so as to help promote the sport among the youths.
Mr. Muhammad thanked the initiative taken by Linden table tennis coaches Raynor ‘Copter’ Anderson and Howard James, who have working on the techniques of the youngsters over a period as part of the coaching programme in Linden to improve the skills of the players of the celluloid game.
