With the second half of the horseracing season well and truly on, the Port Mourant Turf Club will stage the Grand annual One day Pre-Emancipation horserace meet on Sunday July 31 at the Club’s track at Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice.
With just over one week remaining before race day, entries are filling up at a rapid pace and already over 40 entries have been received. Already a number of the country’s top horses have taken entry in what is expected to be another top notch day of racing.
Over $4M dollars is at stake for the seven event meet which will include cash and trophies. Special gate prizes will also be on offer for lucky fans.
Beverage giants Banks DIH limited and Digicel have already inked their names to the day’s card.
The B and Lower race, which will see the animals galloping over 1500M, will see the winner receiving $600,000 plus a trophy.
The 3-yrs-old race is for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies also over 1500M and has a tantalizing $400,000 and trophy as its winning incentive.
The animals competing in the E class race, which is also a 1500M event, will see the winner racing away with $300,000 and trophy.
The Two year old race is also for Guyana and West Indies bred horses over a distance of 1000M with the winner copping $300,000 and trophy.
The G class 1200M gallop has $240,000 and trophy on offer.
There is $140,000 purse available for the winner of the ‘I’ and Lower event which covers a distance of 1200M.
There is a race for JKL horses also over 1200M with a winning purse of $120,000 and trophy.
Race time is 13:00 hrs.
The day’s event will be run under the auspices of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority as such Owners, grooms and trainers are asked to get their animals properly registered before race day. Those animals that are not properly registered will not be allowed to participate in the day’s proceedings. Jockeys are also being reminded that they too must be properly registered with the GHRA or they will not be allowed to participate in the race meet. Anyone found contravening any of the rules will be penalized accordingly.
